Mesh Functions for Standard Version?

Post by Psmith » Fri Apr 17, 2015 6:19 pm

I am confused about the purpose of the "mesh" function that is available in the non-pro version:

1) Warping is only available in the Pro version. If you cannot warp the image contained within the mesh in the standard version ($99) - what can you do with this mesh? What is the purpose of the mesh for an image, if you cannot warp or distort the image in the Standard Version?

2) Refinement of the mesh is available only in the Pro version. Why do you need to refine the mesh that is used in the Standard Version? What advantage does refinement of the mesh for an image have?

Thank you,

Hello Greg,

Thanks for your interest in Creature! Let me answer your following questions.

1) Creature does mesh deformation even in the standard version using bone motors. This process is called Skinning. So even though you can't do advanced mesh warping in the standard version, the mesh is still getting warped via bone motors. When you create a set of bones and install a bone physics motor onto it, those bones will warp the mesh and produce a nice bendy tail. This is all enabled with the standard version.

Have a look at this video done fully with the Standard version:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fFz_35- ... freload=10

In the video above, the entire torso, wings, tail etc. are all undergoing mesh deformation via bone motors. This is only possible if we had meshes provided for Creature.

What the advanced version gives you are mesh motors, that is motors that operate directly on the mesh itself to perform fancy vfx type effects. These include Soft Body Dynamics, Control Point FFD and Envelope type deformations. Direct mesh deformation manipulation is only available in the Pro version.

2) The standard version allows you to remesh the entire image set globally. This is typically fine for most applications. However, there are times when you need to refine specific mesh regions. Like if you wanted to increase the resolution of the body for better dynamics behaviour or decrease the resolution of just the tail for better performance on mobile devices. This fine tuning of mesh fidelity is available in the pro version but not the standard.

Please feel free to ask any more questions!

Cheers,
Chong
