are there currently any issues in the Version 2.00 (97) build (mac OSX) build, to do with image swapping during animation? seems to intermittently create multiple uv layers in the key/knots timeline, and then doesnt seem to update the image at the keyframe specified, cant currently pin down whats causing the problem for me, or any repeatable circumstance, but when it does happen, seems to not correct itself unless i start a new project and re-rig everything.

That sounds like a bug in the editor, will need some time to investigate since it doesn't sound trivial.
Instead of restarting, you can also try switching modes back to mesh/rig and then back again to Animate and see if it clears itself.
You can also check/uncheck the Enable Sprite Swapping on the region mesh to see if it helps.
