I can reliably crash creature by loading up various older projects and then trying to change into animate mode- Here is how I am achieving this bug- (I am not sure which of these steps are exactly causing the bug- so I am just listing what I can to help you find it)
1- load up an old file which I just want to add some vertex points too
2-change into animate mode (the crash will happen here occasionally- read more about this below)
3-have the skin swap and vertex attach windows open in animate mode
4-add the vertex attachs I want after going to the skin I want
5-save and export the project (to game engine)-
6-repeat these steps
After I have done this a few times- it will reliably crash when going from the mesh mode screen to animate mode. I suspect it's just the exporting, then loading up another file- something here is going wrong after this has been done a few times.
I hope this was helpful in your bug hunting efforts.
*EDIT-- just did some more testing and encountered another bug I forgot to previously report on long ago that might be tied to this same problem-
The skin swap and vertex window if left open while on the animate page- save- export- then load up a new file- they are still open and can sometimes still be listing the vertex points and skin swaps of that previous file instead of the new one you loaded up.
Closing creature then reloading fixes the problem.*
edit part 2:- did more testing- closing the skin swap window and reopening fixes it too- lists the correct names.

Re: Crash bug found
Also while doing this I found another weird bug-
Sometimes I cannot rename any vertex attachment points until I place 1 attachment first. I can select the name but typing does nothing.
*edit- more testing reveals how to 100% reproduce this bug-
It can happen whether you have vertex points already or not on any given creature file.
Exit creature (if already in it) then start it up fresh.
load up any creature file (doesn't matter if it already has vertex attach's or not the bug will still happen)
add more then 1 vertex point (don't do anything else inbetween such as placing them or naming them)
it should fail to let you rename them UNTIL you click a mesh point to place one on the artwork.
Closing the vertex window and reopening does not cause the bug to happen- seems to be just from loading up a file.
There I did my good geek of the day.

Re: Crash bug found
Thanks for the investigation! Will note that down to be looked into...
Update: Should be able to resolve a couple of the issues you raised above for the upcoming update.
Thanks

Re: Crash bug found
happy to hear that-
after more usage- I found that the vertex renaming bug isn't actually 100% reproducible- sometimes it will work- but usually it doesn't. I also found that it can randomly decide to bug out even after I've placed a point once in a while.
While I am here--
A small request I'd like to make about Vertex Attachments-
Renaming batches of vertexs can be tedious because you have to click on the next one and click rename- What I'd like to see is if you are in rename mode- pressing tab will cycle to the next vertex and automatically select all text, and let you immediately type to enter a name.
Example on how nice this would flow-- Imagine just typing in these names and pushing tab to be entering the next name without needing the mouse!
vertex low
(press tab)
vertex mid
(press tab)
vertex high
ect
If you use a lot of vertex points, this would be a nice little QOL thing to have. Not super important though of course.

Re: Crash bug found
Actually the vertex renaming is a valid bug, I found out it's an internal UI issue. Will be addressing that.
Thanks
