Creature 3D FAQ

Post by chong » Wed Nov 11, 2020 9:47 am

Q: Creature3D quits unexpectedly on startup after the Splash Screen is shown

Please check that you have a stable internet connection. Creature needs to access the server for updated modules in order for it to function.

Q: Creature3D is unable to open the downloaded samples

When you unzip the sample projects, the project folder/asset itself is located in the top level folder you extracted it out from.
So it will be something like: ElephantSample/ElephantRigTest.c3DProj <--- Actual project

Q: Manual Weight Painting is slow, Rigging workflow is cumbersome

Upcoming updates are focused specifically on Rigging. It will be delivered in stages, with the first Alpha update for Rigging focused on GPU accelerated manual weight painting. This should improve the performance of manual weight painting by quite a bit. After that will be improvements to the AutoRigging pipeline as well as general quality of life improvements.

Q: Why release this in Alpha form?

We believe the only real way to get data points/actual user feedback/requirements is from the real world. As such, the whole idea behind Creature3D is for it to be a community directed/driven effort to fine tune and improve this animation tool. In return for this, the Alpha ( and Beta for the matter of fact ) will be completely 100% Free ( no ads either ). We do not believe in charging people for Early Access before the product is ready.

Q. How long will the Free Alpha be?

No guarantees but from the time of this post, it should last for quite a while ( think anywhere from 9 months to over 1 year... or more ). Creature3D is a rapidly evolving product and we hope you can join us in this journey to help fine tune it for your requirements. Even after the full version is released, there will always be a Free Version usable with a subset of features. The final version will also be offered at a fair price ( definitely much cheaper than anything that is commercial/enterprise out there ). This will be aimed at the hobbyist/indie market.

Cheers

Hello there,

I stay away from software which is online activation, so I currently use Lightwave and Blender. Will your release of Creature 3D restrict to online activation or be node locked in any way ? Many thanks for your time.

Hello,

The release of Creature3D will not be node locked. However, it will need to contact the server for updates ( especially module updates ).
The current Alpha version in fact is not doing any sort of registration; it's just pinging the server to receive any notifications of module updates ( sometimes the server might be slow that's all ). No personal or registration information is sent to the backend in anyway with what you are downloading + running right now.

The official release ( much further down in the future... we aren't even close to that yet ) will require at the very least a first time launch online registration ( standard for most software, including Creature ). However, once the software is activated online the first time, you will not need to be online anymore in the future for the official release.

Thanks
